Carriage Hub FAQ

Why buy a new carriage when there are so many used ones available?

While not everyone can afford a brand new carriage and the used market has many options, buying a new carriage has some significant advantages. Specifically, you can have confidence in the quality and integrity of your carriage and the carriage is specifically tailored to you and your horse(s). When buying new, you have the confidence that there aren’t any hidden defects such as weakened metal, failing brakes, failing suspension, etc. which can result in expensive repair costs. Glinkowski carriages are warranted against defects for two years. Specifically tailoring your new carriage to you and your horses not only allows you to pick the paint and upholstery colors and performance enhancing options such as fifth wheel brake and/or delayed steering, it allows you to make sure the carriage seat position and height are exactly positioned to you.

Your carriage’s serial number is usually located at the front of the turntable.

How much should my carriage weigh?

How much an equine can safely and comfortably pull is a function of their size, training, and fitness level. At FEI level competitions, there are minimum weight requirements for carriages.

Are advertised carriage weights accurate?

Glinkowski weighs and keeps records of all of the carriage it produces. Some manufacturers advertise a weight for a carriage model based upon it’s most stripped down version and doesn’t modify the weight when weight adding options such as larger wheels, fifth wheel brake, more trim, a heavier seat, more robust suspension or delayed steering is added. We have seen cases with other carriage manufacturers where the weight of a carriage was greater than 75 pounds heavier than what was advertised. So, advertised carriage weighs may not be accurate. There is an easy way to weigh a carriage. Using four scales on a flat hard surface (such as concrete) place each wheel on a scale simultaneously. Add up the four weights displayed and you have the weight of the carriage. With Glinkowski you will receive an accurate weight of your carriage.
